Restaurante O Silva

Restaurant

1979 marked the end of a decade but also the beginning of a story that is still being written today. It was in that year that O Silva opened its doors for the first time. The idea that you can eat well in Ribeira Grande, passed many times through the running tables of our restaurant still in costaneira and conteira foliage (local plant).

The regional character, tradition and freshness are qualities that define us. Every day we serve fresh fish, seafood and vegetables that result from our own production along with pork, sausage and blood sausage made with family recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

We offer a spacious and modern space that has been expanded and renovated, seeking to offer the best service and comfort to our customers. We don't like to think of these renovations as a modernization of the restaurant O Silva, but rather as an approach to our customers, a way to show that we maintain, from day one, the will to serve you well.

This is the feeling you will get when you visit us. The certainty that we're in the 21st century, but with the flavors and aromas of 1979.

For our last night in São Miguel we chose O Silva and started with grilled limpets and barnacles, followed by a perfectly cooked Boca Negra and Vinho Verde wine. Dessert was ice cream with pineapple, and the friendly service made the meal memorable.

We were greeted like old friends by Mr. Silva. Limpets and barnacles were excellent starters, and the grouper rice was divine. A recommended white wine (Barrocas do mar) completed a truly unforgettable dinner.

A group of five stopped for Sunday lunch and enjoyed fresh bread, cheese and olives with local wine. We shared shrimp, grilled meats and fish platters, finishing with coffee and brandy. Great atmosphere, friendly service and excellent value.

Our hotel recommended O Silva and the snowy grouper rice did not disappoint. The dining room is simple, but attentive staff and tasty side dishes made us feel at home. We enjoyed it so much that we cancelled another reservation to return the next day.

O Silva became my favorite restaurant in São Miguel. The fried mackerel (chicharros fritos) and grilled limpets were very good, accompanied by salad and yams. Next time I’ll try the fresh fish that locals rave about.

We dined here twice during our 2020 holiday. The Massada de Cherne (grouper pasta) was so good we returned for more; desserts and fish fillet were also excellent. Although the restaurant is busy, staff are friendly and the atmosphere feels safe and welcoming.

Best barnacles (cracas) on the island! We enjoyed tapas, tuna steak and a delicious fish massada. With many appetizers and desserts the average cost was around €30 per person; overall an outstanding place to eat.
